Ocoee, FL · West Orange County

Ocoee movers, where the expressways meet.

Ocoee grew up on Starke Lake as a citrus town and later became a West Orange hub where SR 50, Florida’s Turnpike, SR 408, and SR 429 come together. Black Swan Moving dispatches its own crew and Hino truck from Orange City and reaches Ocoee by way of the beltway.

The roads

Four ways West Orange connects through Ocoee.

The city’s own history page ties Ocoee’s modern growth to the highways that cut south and west of downtown. That same map is what our crew uses on move day.

SR 50

West Colonial Drive

Built south of downtown in 1959, SR 50 is the east–west surface road into Orlando and the corridor many day-to-day errands still use.

Turnpike

Florida’s Turnpike

Extended through West Orange in 1964 just south of downtown, giving Ocoee a long north–south freeway link across the state.

SR 408

East-West Expressway

The western extension, finished in late 1990, ties the Turnpike south of SR 50 through downtown Orlando toward UCF.

SR 429

Western Beltway

The Western Expressway segment that links U.S. 441 to I-4 opened in stages starting July 2000; CFX lists about 23 miles from Apopka to Osceola County.

Toll details for the beltway and East-West Expressway are on CFX’s SR 429 page and SR 408 page. Statewide turnpike info is at floridasturnpike.com.

City Hall

Opening an Ocoee utility account.

Water, sewer, irrigation, and garbage collection start at the Water Department counter inside City Hall. The deposit depends on the address, so call before you drive over.

Green cart, blue cart, and the bulk pile.

Inside city limits, Ocoee’s own Solid Waste Operation runs residential trash, recycling, and yard waste. Your day is on the Recollect app or the city address list.

2000

SR 429’s first segment between U.S. 441 and SR 50 opens in July, completing the city’s expressway story on the city history page.

Black Swan Moving relocated me across town in Summer 2024, and they were by far the most professional company I've ever hired. They handled my belongings with great care and efficiency, and they did it with the best demeanor you can imagine. I'd be thrilled to hire them the next time I move. Thanks for all your hard work and friendliness, Black Swan!

FAQ

Ocoee moving questions.

How do I start city utilities in Ocoee?

Fill out the city's Utility Customer Service Request Form and bring it to the Water Department at City Hall, 1 North Bluford Avenue, with an unexpired class-one photo ID (driver license, passport, or state ID) and your deposit. Owners bring the HUD-1 from closing; renters bring a signed lease and the owner's name, mailing address, and phone. Call the Utility Counter at 407-905-3191 with the property address for the deposit amount. A minimum housing inspection may be required.

How much is the Ocoee utility deposit?

The city does not publish one flat deposit for every address. Call the Utility Counter at 407-905-3191 with the property address to get the amount for that home. You can pay by cash, check, money order, or card (card fees apply). After twenty-four consecutive months of service without a shutoff or a lien notice, the deposit is returned as a credit on the account, and interest accrues monthly.

When do I put trash and moving boxes out in Ocoee?

Set carts at the curb after 7 p.m. the night before collection and before 6 a.m. on collection day. Household trash goes in the city green cart (only what fits). Recycling is every other Wednesday in the blue cart. Bulk items such as furniture are limited to 4 cubic yards and are collected on the same day as trash. Flat-screen TVs can go with bulk; tube TVs cannot. Check the Recollect app or the city's address list for your day, or call Public Works at 407-905-3170.

How do I get rid of old appliances after an Ocoee move?

White goods (appliances) are picked up on the same day as bulk items, once a week. Take doors and locks off, and have Freon removed from refrigeration units before you set them out. Place them out the night before or by 6 a.m. For cart repairs or replacements, call Public Works at 407-905-3170 and allow up to five business days.

Who provides electricity in Ocoee?

Electricity is a separate account from the City of Ocoee water, sewer, and solid-waste bill. Duke Energy has an online lookup that shows whether it serves a given address. If Duke does not serve yours, ask the seller or landlord who does, and start that account so the lights are on when the truck arrives.

How do you get from Orange City to Ocoee?

We take I-4 toward Sanford, then SR 429 (the Wekiva Parkway and Western Beltway) south and west into West Orange. Ocoee sits where SR 50, Florida's Turnpike, SR 408, and SR 429 come together, so we plan the route and the arrival window around both of your addresses and any toll roads.

Do you take TVs off the wall and put furniture back together in Ocoee?

As part of a move, we can take TVs down from wall mounts, take apart beds and tables, pad everything, and put the furniture back together at the new home. We do not put holes in walls, mount TVs, or re-attach anti-tip anchors, and we do not assemble new furniture that is still in the box. Packing help is available as part of a move; we do not offer packing or assembly as stand-alone jobs without a move.

Do you serve Winter Garden and other West Orange addresses from Ocoee jobs?

Yes. Black Swan Moving is based in Orange City and regularly runs West Orange County jobs, including Ocoee, Winter Garden, Apopka, and Orlando. We also move people between Orange County and Volusia, Seminole, and Lake counties. Call 407-603-5366, Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., or request a free quote online.
