Florida packing
Packing for Florida heat and humidity.
A closed truck in a Florida summer gets hot, and humid air finds its way into boxes. A few packing choices protect the things heat and moisture damage first.
Heat
Keep heat-sensitive items in your car
Candles, vinyl records, photo albums, medications, chocolate, wine, and anything made with wax or adhesive can warp, melt, or spoil in a hot truck. Pack them in one box that rides with you in the air conditioning.
Humidity
Pack only dry things
Beach towels, coolers, outdoor cushions, wetsuits, and grill covers should be clean and fully dry before they go in a box. Anything sealed damp can start to mildew in Florida humidity.
Rain
Plan around afternoon storms
Summer storms often build in the afternoon. We wrap mattresses and upholstered pieces before they go out the door, and an early start keeps most of the loading ahead of the weather.
Electronics
Screens and electronics
Back up computers, take a photo of the cables behind the TV and the desk, and keep original boxes if you still have them. Flat-screen TVs travel upright and padded.
June to November
Hurricane season
Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30. If a storm threatens your moving week, keep documents, medications, and chargers in a grab bag instead of the moving boxes.
Outdoors
Garage, lanai, and pool
Drain hoses and pressure washers, run mowers and tools out of fuel, and set pool chemicals aside for drop-off. Lanai furniture is wrapped like indoor furniture.
Before the crew arrives
What stays off the truck, and where it goes.
Movers can’t carry flammable, corrosive, or pressurized materials. Use them up, give them away, or take them to your county’s household hazardous waste drop-off. These sites are free for residents.

Packing time depends less on square footage than on what’s inside each room. These are the rooms that take the longest, and how we handle them.
Kitchen
Usually the most boxes in the house. Plates are packed on edge with paper between them, glasses are wrapped one at a time, and open pantry food is sorted out before it travels.
Closets
Hanging clothes can move in wardrobe boxes so they arrive ready to hang. Ask about wardrobe boxes when you request the quote.
Art, mirrors, and glass
Framed art and mirrors are wrapped and padded, and glass tabletops are handled as their own piece. Heirlooms get extra time; see senior moving for downsizing help.
Home office
Label cables as you unplug them, photograph the setup, and pack files in small boxes so each one stays easy to lift.
Kids’ rooms
Pack a first-night box with bedding, a favorite toy, and a nightlight, so bedtime works on the first night in the new house.

Can you pack fragile or valuable belongings?
Fragile-item packing is available for many approved household and business belongings. Point out artwork, glassware, lamps, electronics, antiques, or unusual items in advance so their handling requirements can be reviewed.
What will your team do when unpacking?
The exact service depends on the agreed scope. It may include opening labeled cartons and placing contents on designated surfaces in the correct rooms. Confirm whether box breakdown or removal is included.
What should I pack and carry myself?
Keep medication, identification, keys, jewelry, cash, important documents, chargers, and immediate essentials with you. Ask before packing chemicals, fuel, propane, aerosols, paint, ammunition, perishables, plants, or other restricted items.
How far in advance should I schedule packing?
Schedule as early as you can, especially for a full-home pack, a large move, or a date during a busy season. The appropriate lead time depends on the inventory, crew availability, and services requested.
Where do I take paint, propane, and pool chemicals before the move?
To your county’s household hazardous waste drop-off, which is free for residents. Volusia residents can use the Tomoka Landfill in Port Orange or the West Volusia Transfer Station in DeLand. Seminole residents can use the Central Transfer Station on State Road 419 in Longwood. Orange County residents can use the Orange County Landfill on Young Pine Road. These materials can’t go on the moving truck.
