Edgewater movers for Florida Shores homes, riverfront streets, and full garages.
Edgewater runs along the Indian River just south of New Smyrna Beach, and nine out of ten homes here are lived in by their owners. People stay a long time, so a move often means emptying a house, a garage, and a shed at once. Black Swan Moving plans for that, along with the city’s own utilities, its Wednesday bulk pickup, and the swales in front of almost every house.

One city account, one electric company.
Edgewater is a full-service city: water, sewer, garbage, and recycling all come from the City of Edgewater. Electric comes from FPL.
Water & sewer
For a single-family home with a 3/4-inch meter, the deposit is $100 for water and $100 for sewer, plus a $35 service charge. $235 is the most you would pay, and good utility credit can lower it.
Garbage & recycling
Trash service starts with the same Utility Billing call: 386-424-2400, option 2. Leave the garbage cart outside the house so the city can verify it. Public Works (ext. 4007) can confirm your days and deliver a green recycling bin.
Electric
Florida Power & Light serves Edgewater. Set up the account separately, a few days before the move, so the power and A/C are on when the crew arrives.
Edgewater’s trash schedule, decoded for moving week.
The city collects its own garbage, so the rules are the same on every street. Only your days change.
| Day | What goes to the curb |
|---|---|
| Monday & Thursday, or Tuesday & Friday | Garbage in the city cart, twice a week depending on your location. Extra bags can go beside the cart. |
| One of your garbage days | Recycling in the green bins (two per household). Flatten every moving box and put it in or under the bin. |
| Wednesday | Furniture, mattresses, appliances, and bagged yard waste, at the curb by 7 a.m. Not collected during holiday weeks. Tires are limited to four per household per year. |
| Any day | Nothing hazardous: no paint, solvents, pool chemicals, or auto fluids. Take those to the Volusia County Landfill at 1990 Tomoka Farms Road in Daytona Beach. |
Two things to check before the truck arrives.
Much of Edgewater drains through roadside swales and canals, and parts of the city have flooded in recent storms.
Where the truck parks
The city maintains about 130 miles of secondary swales, 25 miles of major canals, and 170 retention ponds. Those swales are how the street drains, and a loaded box truck can rut a soft one. We keep the truck on the driveway or the street and plan a longer carry instead. The city also asks residents to keep trash and yard waste out of the swale.
Know the flood history
Florida Shores, Edgewater’s large, decades-old subdivision, flooded after Hurricane Ian in 2022, and city officials said Hurricane Milton flooded about 200 homes in 2024. The city paused new development in January 2025 while it worked on a stormwater master plan. Before you buy or sign a lease, look up the address on FEMA’s flood map and Volusia County’s Know Your Zone map. Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30.

In Edgewater, the garage is often the biggest room to move.
When nine out of ten homes are owner-occupied and almost everyone was in the same house a year ago, garages fill up: tools, workbenches, fishing gear, holiday bins, and the second refrigerator. We plan crew and truck space for it, and we start the garage early so the house goes smoothly.
- Tell us what is in the garage and the shed when you ask for a quote
- Empty gas cans and leave out paint, propane, and pool chemicals, which we can’t load
- Boat, trailer, or golf cart? Tell us, so we plan driveway space around it
- Tools and hardware boxed, labeled, and kept off the furniture

Four kinds of Edgewater moves.
Each one needs a different plan.
Florida Shores
What it’s like: Decades-old single-family homes in one large, decades-old subdivision, with swales and canals for drainage and garages full of everything.
How we plan: Truck on the driveway or the street, never in the swale, and a crew sized for a full house and garage.
Riverside Drive
What it’s like: Homes and parks along the Indian River, including Kennedy Park’s boat ramp and Menard-May Park.
How we plan: Pads for outdoor furniture and a dry, protected spot on the truck for anything coming off the porch or dock.
Ridgewood Avenue
What it’s like: The main road through town, lined with businesses, older homes, and apartments.
How we plan: We time loading around traffic and ask apartment managers about parking and move hours.
Newer neighborhoods
What it’s like: Newer homes, many in HOA communities, toward the SR 442 (Indian River Boulevard) interchange.
How we plan: HOA move rules collected ahead of time, and the full-size truck when the street allows it.
Most Edgewater moves are local, often to or from New Smyrna Beach or Port Orange. I-95 exit 244 (SR 442) is the city’s interstate exit, and exit 249 (SR 44) serves New Smyrna Beach. See how local moves work and long-distance moving.

A bit of history: Dr. John Milton Hawks founded the town as Hawks Park in 1871 and promoted it as “A New England Village on the East Coast of Florida.” By 1887 it had 41 houses, citrus groves, and beekeepers, and in 1888 steamboats shipped 11 tons of its honey. The Florida Legislature renamed it Edgewater on October 24, 1924.

Quoted exactly as customers wrote them.
We just bought a new home and was going to do the move ourself then we realized it would be to much for us. So at the last minute I started looking for moving companies when I came across black swan moving. I figured i would give them a try. when i called i spoke with Amber who set up the move over the phone and gave me a quote for the job . She was professional and very courteous a pleasure to talk to over the phone outstanding customer service. And let me tell you, oh my god it was the best decision I made. Let me tell you they are very professional and courteous they answered any questions we had and the two movers Bryant and Jerry talk about great service they were both phenomenal. I have to say if and when I need a moving company again they will always have my business. One last thing as far as price they are very reasonable and they get the job done .if I could give them ten stars I would.
Punctual, professional, and super personable!I hired Black Swan Movers based on reviews online and my experience was excellent. They confirmed my appointment ahead of time, and actually showed up early and then got right to work!My move was not an easy one, requiring nearly 9 hrs of moving, and they worked hard the whole time with a positive attitude!I would highly recommend Black Swan Movers, and will certainly call them again if I need moving services!
Black Swan Moving relocated me across town in Summer 2024, and they were by far the most professional company I've ever hired. They handled my belongings with great care and efficiency, and they did it with the best demeanor you can imagine. I'd be thrilled to hire them the next time I move. Thanks for all your hard work and friendliness, Black Swan!

Services
Edgewater moving questions.
How do I start water, sewer, and trash service in Edgewater?
The City of Edgewater provides water, sewer, garbage, and recycling on one utility account. New owners can use the city's online New / Previous Account Owner Form and attach the warranty deed or settlement statement; renters use the city's tenant form. Utility Billing is at 386-424-2400, option 2. Leave the garbage cart outside the house so the city can verify it.
How much is the Edgewater utility deposit?
For a single-family home with a standard 3/4-inch meter, the water deposit is $100 and the sewer deposit is $100, plus a $35 service charge, so $235 is the most you would pay up front. The deposit may be lower or waived with a good utility credit rating.
Who provides electricity in Edgewater?
Florida Power & Light (FPL) serves Edgewater. Start electric service with FPL separately from the city utility account, a few days before moving day.
When can I put out furniture and appliances I am not taking?
Wednesday. Furniture, mattresses, appliances, and bagged yard waste are collected on Wednesdays, except during holiday weeks, and should be at the curb by 7 a.m. Tires are limited to four per household per year. Do not set anything you are selling near the street, because the city's crews will pick it up.
What day is garbage pickup in Edgewater?
Garbage is collected twice a week, either Monday and Thursday or Tuesday and Friday depending on your location, and recycling comes on one of those days. Carts can go out the evening before, must be out by 7 a.m., and must be back from the street by 11 p.m. Public Works (386-424-2400, ext. 4007) can confirm your days and deliver a green recycling bin.
Is my Edgewater home in a flood zone?
Check before you close or sign a lease. Parts of Edgewater, especially the Florida Shores area, flooded after Hurricane Ian in 2022 and again during Hurricane Milton in 2024. Look up the address on FEMA's Flood Map Service Center and Volusia County's Know Your Zone map, and talk to your insurance agent about flood coverage.
Can the moving truck park in the swale in front of the house?
We avoid it. Edgewater's drainage depends on about 130 miles of roadside swales and 25 miles of canals, and the city asks residents to keep swales clear. We park on the driveway or the street and use extra crew and carts for a longer carry instead.
Do you also move people between Edgewater and New Smyrna Beach or Oak Hill?
Yes. We move people all over southeast Volusia County, including New Smyrna Beach, Oak Hill, and the beachside, and between Edgewater and Port Orange, Daytona Beach, Deltona, and the rest of Central Florida.
Moving to, from, or within Edgewater?
Tell us about both homes: the house, the garage and shed, any boat or trailer, HOA rules, and your date. We will plan the crew and the truck around them. Prefer to talk it through? Call us or use the contact page.
