DeLand movers for historic downtown homes, Stetson apartments, and new West Volusia neighborhoods.
DeLand grew by more than a fifth from 2020 to 2025, but its center is still the historic downtown of a town Henry DeLand set out to build around education and culture. Moving here means a city utility account, GFL collection on one day a week, and older homes with porches and original floors. Black Swan Moving is based next door in Orange City and plans every DeLand move around those details.

A college town and county seat that keeps growing.
DeLand started as Persimmon Hollow. In 1876, New York businessman Henry Addison DeLand bought a 159-acre homestead here, and on December 6 of that year the settlers voted to name the town after him. DeLand Academy followed in 1883 and became Stetson University. In 1888, DeLand won the election to take the county seat from Enterprise.
The city grew about 23% from 2020 to 2025, adding new subdivisions on the edges of town. More than one in five residents is 65 or older, so we see every kind of DeLand move: student apartments, growing families, and downsizing from a house to a smaller place.
- 46,346residents (Census estimate, July 1, 2025)
- +22.7%population growth since 2020
- 19.0 mi²of land inside city limits
- 64.4%of homes owner-occupied (2020–2024)
- 21.6%of residents 65 or older
- 1876year the settlers named the town DeLand

Porches, old floors, and downtown curbs.
Many homes near Woodland Boulevard and downtown were built long before anyone thought about a 26-foot truck. Downtown itself is busy with shops, the Athens Theatre (open since 1922), and MainStreet DeLand events, so a moving truck needs a plan.
- Floor runners from the door to every room we carry through
- Door frames, banisters, and porch posts padded
- The truck spot chosen before moving day, away from event closures
- Large pieces taken apart when an original doorway is too narrow
Moving near downtown on an event weekend? Check MainStreet DeLand’s calendar for your date before you book the truck time. See residential moving and packing services.

A bit of history: Henry DeLand first came to Florida in 1876 with his brother-in-law, who had “orange fever.” Unimpressed at first, he changed his mind on the high, rolling land past the Wisconsin Settlement (now Orange City), bought the Hampton homestead that day, and set out to build a town around education and culture. The settlers named it for him at a meeting in the Rich cabin on December 6, 1876. The county seat followed in 1888, after an election DeLand won with 1,003 votes to Enterprise’s 439.

Black Swan Moving relocated me across town in Summer 2024, and they were by far the most professional company I've ever hired. They handled my belongings with great care and efficiency, and they did it with the best demeanor you can imagine. I'd be thrilled to hire them the next time I move. Thanks for all your hard work and friendliness, Black Swan!
Punctual, professional, and super personable!I hired Black Swan Movers based on reviews online and my experience was excellent. They confirmed my appointment ahead of time, and actually showed up early and then got right to work!My move was not an easy one, requiring nearly 9 hrs of moving, and they worked hard the whole time with a positive attitude!I would highly recommend Black Swan Movers, and will certainly call them again if I need moving services!
Life brings many trials and tribulations~ with the transitioning of my husband after a battle with cancer, I moved from a 5BDR home to a condo. Black Swan Moving (Bryant) was extremely professional, punctual, and extremely responsive during an extremely stressful time. From multiple sites to locate pieces of furniture that would fit in a new condo to rearranging items in 2 AC storage units, I cannot express how extremely helpful the entire team was with my move!!! We have moved multiple times— very large moves with large furniture and this was by far the best! Words cannot express my gratitude and appreciation!!!
