Piano movers who wrap it twice and roll it, never drag it.
A piano is the heaviest, most awkward piece most families own, and one of the most loved. Black Swan Moving moves pianos on their own or with the rest of your household across Volusia, Seminole, Orange, and Lake counties: blankets first, shrink-wrap over them, a piano dolly underneath, and straps in the truck. The photo here is a piano from one of our own moves.

The same piano, three photos, start to finish.
These are our own photos from a real Black Swan piano move, not stock images. The blanket-wrapped stage is the photo at the top of this page.

What kind of piano you have changes the plan.
Weights are typical ranges from piano.org. The exact figure depends on the make and model, so send us the brand and size with your quote request.
| Piano | Typical weight | What it means on moving day |
|---|---|---|
| Console upright | About 300–400 lb | Small, but still too heavy and top-heavy for a regular hand truck. Wrapped and moved on a piano dolly. |
| Full upright | About 500–800 lb | Tall and heavy. Doorways, porch steps, and turns matter, so we ask for photos of the path. |
| Baby grand | About 500–600 lb | Moved on its own, a grand has no extra piano fee. A grand moved with a full household carries an additional fee. |
| Concert grand | Up to about 1,300 lb | Same policy as a baby grand. Call or send photos so we can plan the crew and the route. |
| Digital piano | About 25–150 lb | Moves like other electronics: padded, kept upright, with the stand and bench packed separately. |
Six things that make a piano quote accurate.
The piano itself is only half of it. The other half is the path from where it sits to where it is going.
Make and size
Brand, type, and height (or length, for a grand). A photo of the piano helps.
Doors and turns
Doorway widths and any tight turns in hallways, both at the old home and the new one.
Stairs and porches
How many steps, whether they turn, and whether there is a landing. Include porch and entry steps.
Elevators and rules
For a condo or apartment: the elevator, the loading area, and any reserved move times.
What we roll over
Hardwood, tile, carpet, or rugs, so we bring the right runners and floor protection.
Where it goes
Pick the wall before moving day, so the crew can set the piano once, in the right place.

Florida humidity is the piano’s real enemy, not the truck.
Pianos are made mostly of wood, and wood swells in humid air and shrinks in dry air. The Piano Technicians Guild says humidity swings change a piano’s pitch, and extreme swings can crack wood, loosen glue joints, and rust strings and tuning pins. A move changes the room, so plan for these:
- Steady conditions, ideally around 68°F and 42% relative humidity
- Near a wall, away from doors and windows that open often
- Away from A/C and heating vents, fireplaces, and direct sun
- A tuning after it settles in; ask your technician how long to wait

What customers say about how we wrap and protect furniture. These are reviews of household moves, quoted exactly as customers wrote them.
Jerry arrived exactly on time, started work right away. All my furniture was expertly wrapped and great care was taken of my fragile items. They worked non stop and were cheerful and accommodating, which makes the move less stressful. Definitely use these guys again and you can tell this is a family business as they really care in customer satisfaction. Bryant at the office was very responsive and answered all questions quickly before I booked. So glad I chose Black Swan as the move went so smoothly.
Jerry and Konroy are AWESOME!!! They moved everything efficiently; working nonstop; wrapping the furniture for protection and taking great care to not damage anything. They're professional, organized, courteous, and hard working. Even though it was extremely hot outside, they got the job done quickly and their great attitudes made this an exceptional day for me. I highly recommend these guys!!!

Piano moving questions.
Do you move pianos?
Yes. Black Swan Moving moves pianos on their own or as part of a full household move across Volusia, Seminole, Orange, and Lake counties, from spinets and consoles to full uprights and grands. The photos on this page are from one of our own piano moves. For a grand piano or tricky access, call us or send photos of the piano and the path to the door so we can plan the crew and the route.
How do you protect a piano during the move?
We pad the path first, then wrap the piano in moving blankets and secure them, then shrink-wrap over the blankets so they stay tight. The wrapped piano rides on a piano dolly instead of being dragged, and it is strapped upright in the truck. The wrap stays on until the piano is in its new spot.
How much does a piano weigh?
Most acoustic pianos weigh between 300 and 1,000 pounds. A console upright is roughly 300 to 400 pounds and a full upright 500 to 800 pounds, while a baby grand is about 500 to 600 pounds and a concert grand can reach 1,300. Digital pianos usually weigh 25 to 150 pounds.
Can you move a piano up or down stairs?
Often, yes, but we need to know about the stairs in advance. Tell us how many steps there are at each home, whether they turn, and whether there is a landing. Photos help. Stairs change the crew size and the time the move takes, so they belong in the quote, not a surprise on moving day.
Will my piano need tuning after the move?
Plan on it. Moving changes the piano's surroundings, and humidity changes move the pitch. Let the piano settle in its new room, then book a tuning with your piano technician and ask how long they want it to acclimate first.
Where should the piano go in a Florida home?
The Piano Technicians Guild recommends steady conditions, ideally about 68 degrees and 42 percent relative humidity, and a spot near a wall away from frequently opened windows and doors, air-conditioning or heating vents, fireplaces, and direct sunlight. Pick the spot before moving day so the crew can set the piano there once.
What should I do before moving day?
Clear everything off the top of the piano and empty the bench. Measure doorways and hallways along the path, and tell us about steps, tight turns, rugs, and floor types at both homes. If the piano is going into a condo or apartment, reserve the elevator or loading area with the building.
How much does piano moving cost?
Every job, including a piano-only move, has our standard three-hour minimum plus a travel fee. A piano-only move has no extra piano fee on top of that. A grand piano moved as part of a full household move carries an additional fee. For your free quote, send us the make, the approximate size, and photos of the path from the piano to the door.
Moving a piano this season?
Send us the make and size of the piano, photos of the path to the door, the steps at both homes, and your date. We will plan the crew and the equipment around them. Prefer to talk it through? Call us or use the contact page.
