Local moving.Planned around your actual move.
Moving across town or between Central Florida communities? Black Swan Moving helps homes, apartments, and businesses plan the crew, access, transportation, and placement from one address to the next.

A local move still deserves a complete plan.
The addresses may be close, but the work still depends on the belongings, property access, preparation, crew, and timing.
Tell us what needs to move, what each property is like, and where you want help. We will use those details to discuss the services and estimate for your move.
Start with both addresses →Homes and townhomes
Plan furniture protection, boxes, larger pieces, driveways, steps, and placement in the new home.
Apartments and condos
Account for stairs, elevators, parking rules, loading areas, gates, and longer walking distances.
Offices and businesses
Coordinate access, furniture, equipment, boxed inventory, operating hours, and move sequence.
Packing and storage
Add packing, unpacking, materials, or storage-moving support when the schedule requires it.
What shapes the cost of a local move?
A useful estimate reflects the actual work—not only the number of miles between addresses.
Inventory and home size
Furniture, boxes, appliances, oversized pieces, and the volume of belongings influence the crew, truck space, and time involved.
Access at both properties
Stairs, elevators, gates, narrow entrances, parking limitations, and long carries can change how the move must be handled.
Services requested
Packing, unpacking, materials, furniture disassembly, storage handling, and special preparation should be included in the plan.
Travel and route
The origin, destination, travel time, truck access, and any additional approved stop affect the schedule and applicable charges.
Date and scheduling
Availability can be tighter around weekends, month-end, closing dates, and popular moving periods. Booking earlier provides more flexibility.
Information accuracy
A complete inventory and honest access details help reduce surprises. Tell us if the scope changes before moving day.
Ask for the complete explanation. Review the applicable minimum, travel charge, labor structure, materials, requested services, and payment expectations before confirming your move.

Care before the lift. Organization through placement.
Your approved moving plan can cover the work required to move belongings safely and efficiently between the two properties.
- Furniture preparationAppropriate blankets, equipment, and handling for the furniture being moved.
- Organized loadingA truck-loading plan shaped around item size, weight, protection, and unloading order.
- TransportationMovement from the confirmed origin to the approved destination under the agreed plan.
- Room-directed placementTell the crew where furniture and labeled boxes should go at the destination.
- Optional additionsDiscuss packing, unpacking, materials, storage, or other requested services before booking.
Plan the path between your door and the truck.
A local move can take longer when the truck cannot park nearby, the elevator is shared, or furniture must travel through a difficult entrance. Share these details before moving day.
Parking and loading
Confirm where a moving truck may legally park and whether a loading space must be reserved.
Stairs and elevators
Provide the floor, stair count, elevator type, reservation time, and building requirements.
Walking distance
Estimate the distance from the closest permitted truck position to the entrance at both locations.
Doors and driveways
Share photos of tight turns, narrow doors, low branches, gates, steps, and oversized pieces.
From the first details to the final room.
Clear decisions before the truck arrives help everyone understand what happens next.
Tell us about the move
Share both addresses, timing, inventory, access, and the services you are considering.
Review the estimate
Confirm the agreed scope, charges, date, arrival information, payment method, and contact details.
Prepare both locations
Finish agreed packing, reserve access, separate essentials, and clear safe walking paths.
Move and place
The crew protects, loads, transports, unloads, and places items according to the approved plan.

What every Florida mover has to put in writing.
Moves that start and end in Florida fall under Chapter 507 of the Florida Statutes. It sets out what you’re entitled to before anyone lifts a box, whichever mover you hire.
A registered mover
Movers must register with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS). Their ads must show a “Fla. IM No.” or “Fla. Mover Reg. No.”, and so must the driver’s door of every truck. Ours is Fla. IM No. IM3260.
A written estimate and contract
Before any work starts, the mover must give you a written estimate and contract, signed or acknowledged by both of you, with an itemized breakdown of every charge and the dates of the move.
Payment choices up front
The estimate and contract must say which payments the mover accepts, and a mover must accept at least two of the three kinds the law lists: (a) cash, cashier’s check, money order, or traveler’s check; (b) a valid personal check; or (c) a valid credit card.
A minimum liability rate
A mover can’t limit its liability below 60 cents per pound per article, and any limit must be disclosed in writing before the move, along with any valuation coverage you can buy.
Medicine and kids’ things are never held
Even in a billing dispute, a mover may not hold back prescription medicines or children’s furniture, clothing, or toys.
Check before you book
Look up any mover on the FDACS Business Search, or call 1-800-HELP-FLA. FDACS also suggests getting more than one written estimate.
A local move, week by week.
Most local moves come together in about a month. These are the Florida-specific steps people tend to forget.
| When | What to do | Why it matters here |
|---|---|---|
| 4 weeks out | Book the date, and ask both buildings or HOAs about move hours, gates, and elevator reservations | Month-end and weekend dates fill first, and many communities limit move hours |
| 3 weeks out | Schedule utility start and stop dates. Look up your new city’s utility office on its city page below | Some Florida cities ask for a deed or lease and a deposit before turning on water |
| 2 weeks out | Drop off paint, propane, and pool chemicals at your county’s household hazardous waste site | These can’t go on the truck. See the drop-off sites |
| 1 week out | Confirm parking for the truck at both homes, and pack everything except daily essentials | Gated streets and condo lots may need a vendor pass |
| Moving day | Start early, keep water handy, and walk through each home with the crew lead | Florida afternoons are hot and often stormy |
| Within 30 days | Update your Florida driver license address, and file a USPS change of address | Florida asks for a license address update within 30 days of moving |
| By March 1 | If you bought a home, apply for the homestead exemption with your county property appraiser | You must own the home and live in it as your permanent residence on January 1 of the tax year; the application is due by March 1. Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30. If you’re moving during the season, keep a backup date in mind and keep important papers with you, not in the boxes.
One crew, four counties.
We’re based in Orange City, in west Volusia County, and move families and businesses every week across Volusia, Seminole, Orange, and Lake counties. Every city page lists that city’s utility, trash, and neighborhood details.
Volusia County
From DeLand and DeBary to the coast at Daytona Beach and New Smyrna Beach. Beachside condo towers usually need elevator and loading-dock reservations.
Seminole County
Sanford, Lake Mary, Longwood, Winter Springs, Oviedo, Altamonte Springs, and Casselberry. Gated communities often require a vendor pass and set move hours.
Orange County
Orlando, Winter Park, Maitland, and Apopka. Downtown buildings may limit truck parking and set loading times.
Lake County
Mount Dora, where downtown festival weekends can close the streets around historic homes.

“Black Swan Moving relocated me across town in Summer 2024, and they were by far the most professional company I've ever hired. They handled my belongings with great care and efficiency, and they did it with the best demeanor you can imagine. I'd be thrilled to hire them the next time I move. Thanks for all your hard work and friendliness, Black Swan!”

I figured i would give them a try. when i called i spoke with Amber who set up the move over the phone and gave me a quote for the job . She was professional and very courteous a pleasure to talk to over the phone outstanding customer service. And let me tell you, oh my god it was the best decision I made. Let me tell you they are very professional and courteous they answered any questions we had and the two movers Bryant and Jerry talk about great service they were both phenomenal. Helpful answers before moving day.
What is considered a local move?
A local move generally stays within the surrounding service region rather than following a long-distance delivery plan. Pricing and rules can depend on the route and the applicable type of move, so send both addresses for the correct estimate.
Is Black Swan Moving licensed and insured?
Black Swan Moving is registered with the State of Florida as a household-goods mover under Fla. IM No. IM3260 and operates under USDOT 3397054. We maintain cargo and commercial vehicle coverage applicable to our moving operations. Customers may request current registration and insurance information before booking.
How is a local moving estimate prepared?
The estimate depends on the inventory, origin and destination, property access, requested services, travel, and expected labor. Include stairs, elevators, long carries, oversized pieces, packing needs, and any storage gap.
Is there a minimum charge?
Ask us to confirm the current minimum and any applicable travel charge for your specific move. Review the written estimate and agreed services before booking.
Can you move apartments and condominiums?
Yes. Confirm permitted moving hours, parking, loading areas, gate access, elevator reservations, and any property-management requirements before moving day.
Can I add packing or unpacking?
Yes. Ask about full packing, partial packing, fragile-item preparation, materials, or unpacking. Include those needs when requesting your quote so the appropriate time and supplies can be planned.
What should I keep with me?
Keep medications, keys, identification, important documents, jewelry, irreplaceable items, chargers, and first-night essentials with you rather than placing them on the moving truck.
What if my move becomes long distance?
Tell us the updated destination as soon as possible. Long-distance transportation and delivery arrangements differ from a local plan, so availability, timing, and pricing must be reviewed again.
Tell us where you are moving.
Share both addresses, your preferred date, inventory, property access, and any packing or storage needs. We will help you plan the next step.
